Seen Minority Report, the movie? Project Looking Glass by Sun is a 3D desktop tool for Linux and Windows that can give your computer a similar user interface. Based on Java, it supports running unmodified existing applications in a 3D space.

At the moment the project is in it's infancy and though there is no beta version,  a development version is available for download. Awesome stuff.
