Lord of the Rings was six books? Wasn't it a trilogy? Nope. Says the book,  "the Lord Of The Rings is often erroneously called a trilogy, when it is in fact a single novel, consisting of six books plus appendices, published for convenience in three volumes...".  You didn't know that... did you?
